Nov 20, 2011 9:05 PM in response to fdm1979by aweswong,thank you fdm1979 !!
I was trying to set up iMessage on my daughter's iPod (and I'm a software developer with 20+ years experience) - and I just could not get this to work. And this was after having no trouble configuring it on several other iphones and ipads.
Apparently - she was changing the iPod time on purpose to trick certain games into giving extra time-based bonuses.
Who knew - that slightly altered times would cause iMessage to quietly fail with no useful feedback....
Thank you thank you thank you...

Dec 15, 2011 7:45 AM in response to AverageComputerGuyby bradverebay,I'm in Turkey and this definitely solved it for me: (Turkey has been known to block all kinds of stuff, maybe using Google's DNS servers (below) will solve it for where you are too.)
Try this :
1. Go to the Settings App.
2. Tap on Wi-Fi
3. Your chosen network will be ticked. Tap on its white arrow over a blue circle button to its right
4. Tap on DNS
5. Replace the current information with 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
6. Try visiting a website with Safari to see if this works
7. Try registering iMessage / FaceTime
Thanks Pipid!

Dec 17, 2011 9:13 AM in response to pipidby carlosayala,I'm in México. I bought an iPhone 4S from Iusacell and had the same problem. I got it straightened out with the following steps:
1. Go to the Settings App.
2. Tap on Wi-Fi
3. Your chosen network will be ticked. Tap on its white arrow over a blue circle button to its right
4. Tap on DNS
5. Replace the current information with 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
6. Try visiting a website with Safari to see if this works
7. Try registering iMessage / FaceTime
It only worked with standard open network wi-fi. You have to try a few times until you are asked for your Apple ID password. Input your password for both iMessage and FaceTime, and they will be activated in 1 minute max.
Thanks for your solution, pipid.
