This is so anoying !!! I open finder to do things, when I eject a mounted disk the window closes and I have to re open it ,, GGRRRRRR!!!
I should be the one who decides when a window closes no my OS GRRRRR , how the %$#% is this user friendly ????????

Perhaps the Finder preferences are corrupted.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.finder.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that makes a difference.
Select another drive or folder before ejecting the media.
If you eject while the media is in focus, the window will close.
If you go to (say) your home folder, then eject the media, the window will remain open at your home folder.
