Internet problems; pages not always loading, especially if they contain images.

Hi there,

All of a sudden my G4 laptop is having issues loading web pages, specifically ones with multiple images. For instance, if I searched Google for "toaster", the initial search engine page will come back in normal time, but if I select Googles images page, only half (if that) of the images will appear. The rest will be the small blue rectangles with a question mark. It took me a few goes to even get to this support page.

I'm using Safari, though I get the same result with Firefox. It could well be the internet service provider I suppose though I don't know how to tell.

In my Network preferences, under the DNS tab, there is the ip address number of the wireless router. It's greyed out.

Thanks for any help.

This isn't just happening on the G4 laptop (Leopard). Happens on the iMac too (Snow Leopard).

Spoke to the ISP again today, they say all should be fine.

No packets lost when pinging...(though I know nothing about pinging). We're getting a download speed of about 1.4 - 2 MB. Apparently the most we can get in this area is 2 - 2.5 anyway.

iPlayer works sometimes but not always and the images issue is still very much here. Lucky if we get 20% of the images on a page that we should do.

No one got any ideas....?

Ok, doing this.....

In Firefox, go to address about:config and you will be able to change the

...made Firefox finally load all the images on to the page. It was posted on MacRumours many years ago - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=441693

I'm not a network kind of guy and I don't really understand what the problem is from that solution. Is it the ISP who's at fault? Given that it's happening on different computers with different operating systems and different browsers, am I safe to presume that?

And, more importantly, how do I fix this issue with Safari?
