Bright dot not showing in dock for running applications

The bright dot that is supposed to show up underneath the running application icon in the dock is not visible. I've removed the

com.apple.dock.plist file and logged out, removed the com.apple.dock.plist and rebooted and have the same behavior. I've also logged in as a different user, created a new user, and they all have the same behavior.

I'm running a 10.5.8 on a MackBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

It did not resolve the issue.

I moved com.apple.dockfixup.plist from /Library/Preferences/, ran the 'killall Dock' from a terminal window. The Dock daemon restarted, but I still have the same behavior (no bright dots under running app icons)

There is a com.apple.dock.db file in my ~/Library/Preferences directory. What is the purpose of this file?

Repairing your disk from the Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard DVD

Boot up from your Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.

Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.

Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.

Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.

If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

OK, I finally figured out what was the problem. First, the correct nomenclature for the "bright dots" is "indicator"; that is, they indicate what applications are running. The problem was that the indicator*.png files were missing from /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources. Those files are:

indicator_large.png

indicator_medium.png

indicator_medium_simple.png

indicator_small.png

indicator_small_simple.png

Removing the com.apple.dock.* had no effect.

I used Docker for Mac (http://download.cnet.com/Docker/3000-18487_4-175638.html) to restore the files.
