2 external monitors on new 27" thunderbolt iMac

Although I've heard their devices can be slower than machines that have the GPUs to support additional displays.

You can use the Mini DisplayPort adaptor to hook up the monitors to your iMac, HMDI, DVI or VGA. You can buy the adaptors from the Apple Store.

You can hookup two monitors to each of the Thinderbolt connections.

If you read the Q&A about the Mini DisplayPort adaptor in the Apple Store. It states that the Mini DisplayPort adaptor works with Thunderbolt.

Would the 1GB video card be able to drive tripple monitor where the 2 other monitors are running 1080p at least? Or a 2GB one would be the must?

I am setting up my new iMac. The Mini Display Port adapter that I used on my old iMac does not fit into the Thunderbolt port. It is way too big for the TB port. The pictures I have seen on the internet look different than the ports I see on the back of my iMac. The pictures are all showing laptops. So, maybe the MDP will work on a laptop's thunderbolt port, but not on my iMac. I wish I could figure this out. I saw a video where two extra monitors were attached to the new 27" iMac. I only want to do one extra monitor. Can't figure it out. I appreciate any help you can give.

Philip it's probably best to begin your own thread for a couple of reasons. First is thread has been answered already and second because it's a different topic. I suspect your old computer may have used mini DVI rather than mini display port otherwise the cable should fit. You may want to view the specs on the old computer to verify.

I had the same problem. It seems to be a ground loop, connected shields form these kinds of loops. If you are using balanced cables, try pulling them half way out from your monitor outputs, leaving the shield disconnected (no need to break pins or anything like this...). It worked just fine for me.

If you're not comfortable with connecting your balanced cables half way, try to use unbalanced cables and you should be fine.

Does the 21.5 inch model has 2 Thunderbolt ports too, right?

i have a cintiq 24HD touch and a 24 sansung monitor tv connected to my new 27 inch imac. It works great but sometimes a get the rainbow wheel if I have too many things opened at once, displayed throughout my 3 monitors,despite having gotten all upgrades possible on the machine. I recommend to use it with caution and close unused programs for best performance. I had to disconnect the TV once to use the thunderbolt port to transfer files to an external seagate drive. After I was done I just reconnected the TV back to the portal and all was back to my previous 3 display setting. So far so good.
