Cleaning the fans of the MacBook Pro

Bought my MacBook Pro in Sep 2009. Never opened it up to clean it. However I now am sure that I need to open it up to clean the fans. However, I have no idea on how to open it. Also, I've read on ample blogs about different methods on finally getting the dust out of it (compressed air, etc.) but there are the pros and cons about each.

So any suggestions? How do I open my MBP? And how do I finally clean out the dust?

That's certainly the more fun way to clean dust and gunk from your MBP. But if you're near an Apple Store and visit a Genius Bar, one of the experts there might be able to do it...free of charge. That's what I did, and they were happy to have such an easy service call. The same week, they also cleaned up the fan of my iMac.

Was your MBP still under warranty and/or in for another reason? That sure would be nice of them if they dismantled every Mac someone brought in and cleaned it for them. I'm two hours away from the nearest Apple Store, but next time I get in that neighborhood, I may just bring all my Macs in for a good free cleaning! 😉 Thanks for sharing that.
