Downloading photos from iPhone 4

My iPhone 4 syncs fine in iTunes (Mac). However, it does not show up in Image Capture or iPhoto or any other app as a source to import photos from.

In response to many online suggestions to attempt to delete any photos not actually taken with the iPhone camera, I've deleted ALL photos and videos from my Camera Roll. However, I still have the same problem. If I take a photo and then look to download it, no dice.

Looking for further suggestions.
