Tiger 10.4.4. Update WARNING! (CHUD)

For those who use CHUD tools to disable Nap mode (because of high pitch whine and other weird processor and firewire noises)
I recommend to uninstall older version of CHUD tools.
After I did software update my fans always started to get crazy 2-3 minutes after booting. No matter which app I started, even if any. The fans went so fast and loud I thought they are thinking that the 10.4.4. update turned them into some Rolls-Royce engines (used to "move" airplains) and they probably decided to fly my Mac away...
Then I realized I can not connect to the Internet, because my USB cdma modem "did not exist" even if I checked the connection and the power-on statement...
I uninstalled the CHUD tools and the problems were gone.

There is a new version of CHUD tools from 2006-10-01 available here: http://developer.apple.com/tools/download/

disable Nap mode (because of high pitch whine and other
weird processor and firewire noises)

Could you please explain more about this?
Because, I have this high pitch whine at the processor directly associated with a connected and powered on firewire audio interface.
The whine only happens in the processor when the interface is powered on.
Also, how to use 'CHUD' to disable nap mode to get rid of this whine?
How?

The whine you're hearing on a PowerBook (mine does it too) is caused by the 'nap' mode the processor is running. It's a power-saving technique where power to various parts of the system is reduced under certain conditions.
The CHUD tools is a packaged intended for developers, which includes a preference panel which allows you to disable nap mode, which gets rid of the weird noise on PowerBooks.

(yes, this noise happens when Firewire devices or some USB devices are connected, even if they're not drawing bus power.)

Thanks for the answer.
Unchecking "nap mode" does silence the high pitch whine.
That's good ! Thanks!
Now, it would be interesting to know why the whine happens at all since when I recently had a
different firewire audio interface there was no whine and no need for CHUD tools.
It's currious, the other FW interface had custom drivers to install and no whine.
My current interface had no particular drivers to install, said it uses the "Apple built-in drivers".
This is kind of like, "Problem solved" but now it's
Why was there this problem in the first place.

What audio interface are you using?

to ifwuh:
this "chripping" noise is known mostly / and only probably when using firewire interfaces. Many G5 machines are affected-some people reported that changing PSU unit solved the problem....
After you install CHUD tools you have to reboot your Mac. Than will find new Processor pane under Preferences. Here you can untick (disable) Nap mode.
Good news is, that "the CHUD package installer no longer depends on the Xcode Developer Tools package being installed"
(taken from it's latest release notes)....

To everyone else: glad to see it helped 🙂

And tobytheuba: I haven't seen that movie, it seems that it is a horror movie right? No, I wasn't feeling SO bad because I knew that I am in OSX world, no Windows anymore, hence I hardly believed it must be solved immediatelly. And it was 🙂
