Hinge not secure

i have this same problem. its been going on for at least a year and is a drag, really.

i've been able to lose the cracking sound by re-adjusting/aligning the four screws on the PB spine (loosen screws - not all the way out, then gently tighten again) and by using a miniscule amount of wd-40 transfered via a small piece of paper to the hinge slots. be very careful with this. its at your own risk, etc.....

what i really need to do is to open and dismatle the whole machine (www.pbfixit.com shows how) to remove the screen, then carefully access/crack it open? guess i dont have the guts.... hmm.

this is all just to tighten a few screws to stop the thing wobbling. can you see why i've been letting it wobble?

who knows how long it would be away to have fixed - rather put up with for the mo'.

will report back if I decide to attempt this one day!

cheers,

J.

(oh yeah, if you have applecare, i believe it should cover repairing this prob. - give them a call)

Hi rs --

If you feel like doing it yourself, you could try using the Al Glide hinge adjuster kit from Radtech.

But, since you're covered by AppleCare, you might just want to avail yourself of that and have Apple fix the hinge for you professionally and for no added cost.

I'm not sure whether you could get this type of maintenance done on site, either at a Genius Bar or at an AASP, but it might be worth looking into to see if you could since it's not too complex an undertaking. That way, you would have to part with your PB while it gets fixed.

Good luck.

I had the same problem with my pbook, the cracking and poping of the screen. I called Apple and sent it back to them, and in less than 5 days I got it back without any problems...i am extremely impressed...they did a great job and did it quickly

Highly reccomend sending it back to them and telling them that the screen is cracking and poping
