My music has disappeared from my iPhone!

I listened to music on my iPhone 4 yesterday all day like normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

I did not sync it at all yesterday.

Last night, I placed it on my nightstand to charge through the night. This morning, I ran through my normal routine of checking email, FB, etc. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

I just went to listen to some music, and all of my music (thousands of songs) and playlists are gone from my iPhone except for two songs (1 song and 1 video) that are the same song and two of my most recent purchases/downloads.

Any suggestions to how this could even happen?

I am in the process of re-downloading all of my purchased music via the itunes app and iCloud because my latest purchases have not been synced to my iMac.

This seems so random and I don't want it to happen again... any thoughts to why and/or how it could happen?

Sounds like I have a similar problem. I just used iCloud to download several songs that had been purchased but weren't on my iPhone. When I unplugged my iPhone and selected the iPod app, the only songs that were present were the ones I had just downloaded. Strangely, when I plug back into the computer, all of the songs show up in the list on iTunes. Possibly a bug related to iCloud?

I just had the same problem and I am assuming it is relating to using iCloud. I downloaded one song from the iTunes store this morning and It didn't show up under my purchases, under songs, artists, etc., so I used the cloud icon and then....voila, all of my music on my iPod touch was erased...all except the song I purchased this morning.

This just happened to me for the second time.

The first time was back in December I think. All my music disappeared. Before it happened, iTunes had been telling me to plug my iPhone in and perform a restore, but I just ignored it.

Same thing this time - however two albums that I recently purchased via iTunes (that automatically downloaded to my iPhone) were left on the phone.

What's strage, as others have pointed out, is that iTunes is still displaying all the space on the iPhone that was previously occupied by the music!

I'm going to leave it as-is and take it to a Genius bar this week.

If I recall correctly the issue was attributed to wifi sync and I believe the genius recommended I turn it off. I did so, and haven't had this issue since.

I recently considered enabling the feature since there's been some significant iOS upgrades in the interim, but decided not to since the feature isn't of much value to me and I find it quite a hassle to restore my iPhone.
