Q: isight on at bootup?

I just posted here half an hour ago, haha, but since I bought my Macbook in '08, I've been having the weirdest persistent issue with absolutely no solutions on Google or Apple Support. Every so often, maybe every week or so, my iSight will turn on during bootup. The green light will be on as if some application is using it, which isn't possible because I haven't even logged in yet.

I even checked in System Prefs>Accounts, no application involving iSight is opening on startup. It's the weirdest problem, and restarting the computer doesn't even work. I have to shut down my computer, wait until the light turns off (a few seconds), and then turn my Macbook back on. It's really strange.

There's definitely no solution from what I can find, so is anyone else having the same problem?

    Hi,

    Try a PMU/SMC Reset

Just found this again, forgot I had posted this.

I've reset the PRAM countless times, the issue still persists at random.

    (1) PRAM is not the reset you need.

Apple's iSight Troubleshooting article tells you to use the PMU/SMC Reset that Ralph linked.

    (2) If the problem continues after you are certain that you have correctly used the PMU/SMC reset procedure for your MacBook, yours is most likely a hardware problem that will require a professional fix.  Use Apple's final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:

"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

Unless you have a current backup, make one before relinquishing your Mac for service.

    (3) If you want to try one more thing on your own before seeking professional help, use your MacBook's Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the latest Combo Update.  The current version for your Snow Leopard OS is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.  Then check to see if your problem persists.

Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  Contact your AASP.

Just to be clear, my PRAM post would look like this.

I would also try a PRAM reset.

    Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

    PRAM Keys

Thanks  to EZ Jim for the intervening post.
