iTunes does not recognize CD

If iTunes is already opened it will not recognize when a CD is inserted into CD drive. I have to exit iTunes and restart program at which point the CD is recognized and life is good. This routine needs to be repeated each time a CD is loaded. HELP!

I only attempted to burn CDs using iTunes when Version 5 came out so I have no experience with earlier versions. I now have version 6.0.4.2 installed with CD Driver 2.0.4.3 and CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2. I have not been able to burn a single CD using iTunes. As with the other posters in this forum, I insert a blank CDR or CR-RW and I click on the burn button for a playlist I created. iTunes will attempt to read the media and then prompt me to insert a blank media even if it is already blank. If I reinsert that same disc or another disc, iTunes will attempt to read it again and just aborts the burning process. It doesn't matter whether my playlist has songs imported from my store-bought CDs or if I am including songs I downloaded from iTunes. I get the same results either way. I am able to write on CDR, CDRW, DVDR, DVD-RW using other software on the same PC (such as RecordNow, Windows Media Player, Musicmatch, ULead, and InCD). I tried different CD media brands as well: Sony, Memorex, Verbatim ... but none of these work either. I checked for updates to my DVD-RW driver and I have the latest installed. [For comparison, I was successful in burning a CD using another computer, a DELL Latitude C840.] The transcript of the CD diagnostic I ran is shown below:

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
