Iomega ego 1tb portable hard-drive (helium) for macbook pro

Ok, so I literally bought this hard drive 4 hours ago, and when I plugged it in I expected the hard drive to be mounted and to be able to start using it, but instead I get this message that says "its drawing too much power and one or more usb ports have been disabled in order to fix the problem" (this includes the hard drive so apparently it is using too much power). Do all portable hard drives do this with the mac book pro 15''? Also is there any known product that really works and does not require an alternative power source?

Macbook Pro 15in.

Hi j,

There are certainly many, many 2.5" external HDs which run on the power from just one port (I have several). I do not have any 1TB 2.5" HDs mounted in an external enclosure, and I cannot say if it's a common issue for that large a drive drawing too much power, or if the enclosure you have is the power culprit, or it's a combination of the two. Did it come with a 2 USB port "pigtail" cable?
