Best General Color Profiel for Cinema Display

Hi All,

I am acutely aware that the Cinema displays are not professional standard for color correction, and that I need a decklink or an MXO connected to a proper monitor to get an accurate color rendition for editing/grading. I am also aware that no one profile will be correct for all machines due to different light conditions etc.

Taking all that into account, which of the Color profiles for the Cinema Displays is the best one to use for FCP/Color?

I need a quick fix that will give the the best option available without having to do individual calibrations. It is not a luxury I can afford at this stage.

Thanks in advance for any help/answers/information.

Cheers

Hi,

you sound aware of the potential pitfalls so all I would say is to either use a spyder pro (or similar) to set up your own display for your own room settings, failing that, calibrate it yourself in system settings. Most importantly though, get to know the scopes in FCP, theyre not brilliant but will at least let you know if youre burning whites or crushing blacks, or oversaturating chroma. If you know any friendly post houses, take a test grade to them and have a look on their kit.

This may get you close but as you know, its no replacement for breakout boxes and properly calibrated monitors.

cheers

Generic RGB should be used with FCS Pro applications as spicified by Apple, so set your display settings to that.

Monitor profiling such as Spyder and iOne creates icc files, FCP cant use these files as it is not colour management aware unlike applications such as Photoshop.

Colour Management is for still photography not for video work.

If you want the best out of your cinema display, use a NTSC or PAL PLUGE test pattern and adjust your monitor untill they are all neutral, then display colour bars and set to display correctly.
