60 GB (Black) here, having problems, see my post below:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=314585&tstart=0

The screen shows the rating stars, but when you touch the wheel, the volume or track position changes. The screen is NOT displaying the correct screen. REEEAL NICE! Ugh!

    Anyone else see this problem?

It's pretty clear that there is a problem with the 1.1 update. For those of you who are not experiencing problems, lucky you. That does not mean many other people are not having problems.

By the way, the problems are occuring regardless of which video export method people try, so it's pretty annoying reading post from people who are invalidating those of us who are experiencing problems and trying to blame the methods we are using to get the video into the iPod format. If it worked before we updated to 1.1 and doesn't afterwards, then Apple changed something in the update which broke something.

In the mean time, I recommend downgrading back to version 1.0 which will mean a reformat of the iPod and reloading all your music etc. This of course should just happen automatically when you next sync to iTunes after the firmware downgrade. Be sure your iTunes library is in good working order so that you don't lose anything. Then we wait for version 1.2

Yes, after seeing the issues with 1.1 (all the posts), I am going to downgrade to 1.0. But right now, I am going to (taken from the 'Matrix')...UNPLUG. Goodnight. Thanks you for the suggestion. Time for sleeeeep.

    POOF!

"Now, to address those that keep saying "Well, then you should just encode with Quicktime/iTunes." That would be great... if I could. Apple has not seen fit yet to allow either Quicktime or iTunes to open Xvid encoded files."

You can certainly play DivX and XviD (and other formats with this software) movies from within QuickTime and iTunes with DivX 6.0 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/8270). The free version is the player component, you have to purchase the encoder. This however is not the best way to convert movies to iPod's format, for that use iSquint (isquint.org). Most other one-button converters use QuickTime to do the conversion which could increase your transcoding time by a factor of 4!

    I am totally disgusted that

    a) the worlds largest music player issues an update which clearly has not been used on the target device

    b) when bugs are found in a new release of software, that is being downloaded as such an amazing rate, that it isn't withdrawn, fixed and an apology posted.

As an apology, why not add gapless playback ? you CAN do it, you know. It's just political why it isn't added as a function !

I bought Pro, and exporting movies take hours to convert to the iPod format, and then they didn't have any sound. I have a couple different programs I use to covert now. Videora, and a couple others.

That has happened to me, but I haven't updated. Some videos and podcasts will start back up from the place you stopped them. Even if you have listened to other things in between. I have some techno podcasts that are a few hours long, and they start at the same place I stopped listening to them last time. Does this happend to every video, everytime?

I ran the 1.1 updater again and it gave the the option to 'Restore' the iPod. So I did. I thought that meant that it would restore it to the way I received it from the factory, BUT it didn't. After it was finished, I checked the OS version and it still says 1.1 HOWEVER, my particular issue seems to be resolved. The rating would continue to display even though the touch wheel would change song poition or volume. Basically I would have to press the center button 3 times fast to get out of that screen. THAT SEEMS to be fixed.

So, if having issues (with your iPod, not life in general, haha), try to restore the blasted thing. It worked for me.

Hey just think, in a few years, these things will make wonderful compact doorstops.

I lied. Thought the sticky rating screen was fixed after a 'Restore', but it's not. In fact, it's worse. Now I have to press the center button 10 times to get out of the rating screen. That's some improvement!

I guess I will truly downgrade to 1.0. Oh well.

The videos i used Pro to convert were only 4-5 minutes long.
Videora converts in minutes like it should
