flashing nvidia/dell geforce 7800 GTX 512 PCIe

Hello there

I finally got the purpose to replace the 6600 of my G5 quad, and bought a pc nvidia/dell geforce 7800 GTX 512 PCIe (and the power cable separately)

Now I have to flash it (uf!). I´ve been looking for a guide to do it for this specific card but, all I got is general procedures from strangedogs (which is actually pictures of poor dogs whose owners thinks that their photos are funny)

I got a lot of help here before, but the people who helped me can´t go further, so I think that somebody that flashed tis card before could help me to perform a guide to publish at strangedogs and aquamac

I know that Rubytuesday wrote the rom for that card, and there is a method to flash it, but I´d like to use my experience flashing my card to write this guide

I need a little bit of help. Thank you

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G5 2,5 Quad

Hi-

General procedures are all most will give.

The guys that do it all the time do it for money and the rest believe that you must put all the pieces together from all the scattered parts on the net.

Fair enough....

Most people that flash cards learned on their own with liitle guidance.

At least, that's my story.....

I gave you the link to using NVFlash from the Mac Elite site.

That's how you flash a Geforce in a PC.

This is how to flash a Geforce 5200:

The cards are different, but the process is the same.

Use version 5.6.3 of NVFlash.

First dump the ROM of the card that you will flash and back it up.

Also confirm the ROM size.

The new ROM must be the same size as the old ROM or a chip will need replaced.

Here is the flash procedure with NVFlash:

Another example (though different for ATI), is a flash process for a X1900:

Hey Japamac, you are always there. I could never express my gratitude.

I was thinking on something: in the card I bought, there is no clue on the description if it pc or Mac, or compatibility reports or anything related

I was thinking in plug it on my Mac once it arrives. If it is flashed yet, no job is required, but: what could happen if it is not flashed with a Mac rom? For sure the Mac will won't boot but, could it damage the Mac or the card?

I think it could be absurd, but otherwise I think: what could you lose trying?

Thank you

No, there should be no problems... just a black screen if the card contains a PC ROM.

The same goes for after you flash it; there shouldn't be any permanent problems if something goes wrong.

If you flash it and it doesn't work, you just reinstall it in a PC and flash it again with the ROM that you saved.

It is very rare that the process of flashing kills a card.

I know that I have flashed a card up to 10 times in a row to get it right....

Of course, you must test the card in a PC before you flash it so you know that the card works.

And DON'T forget to BACKUP the original ROM......

Ok. Today I started to try to flash the card. No pci card so I modified the bios to force the internal video card to plug the display. No IDE floppy so flashing from USB floppy but system runs sucessfully from a system floppy disk from this drive

When I try to backup the rom with nvflash, it gives me the following error:

no dpmi - get csdpmi*b.zip

Googleing it, I found that it could be due to trying to flash it from an USB stick, error that can be solved using three files that I can't find

Next post I write those files names
