Whenever I connect my iTouch to an FM transmitter it malfunctions. Please help.

When I connect the iTouch to the FM transmitter it starts/stops and skips/fast-forwards songs consistently.

There is noting wrong with the transmitter because my old nano works on it. Also, the iTouch correctly registers and functions when connected to a regular headphone jack.

Does anyone has any advice other than resetting my device?
