Microsoft Silverlight Preference Mac Issues

I have a program called Microsoft Silverlight Preferences (Which I use for Netflix), I need to change the preferences but underneath it, it say’s "The above choices are disabled cause the administrator has set and locked this preference for this account."

So the question is how do I unlock this, when I’m not sure how I locked it in the first place?

It looks like this problem occurs in windows as well. From what I was able to gather at the below forum, someone corrected by disabling the (windoze) firewall while others resolved it by completely removing the app and associated dependencies. AppCleaner should help with the latter.

The issue could be browser related too (not blaming safari but perhaps the same problems that plague Silverlight and IE can manifest with Safari). I personally do not like Safari and use Firefox. You might want to try Firefox if all the above fails.

Well I have two accounts on my mac. On my main account, the error message is displayed on both Safari and Firefox. But on my ‘test’ account made for the sole purpose of testing Netflix on a ‘reset’ account, Netflix does work on it. But it refuses on my admin account. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight. I just want to know how to unlock the preferences that the Silverlight is talking about. I still have no idea how I even locked it! I have spoke with people at Netflix and with customer service at Apple, neither were too helpful.

That's strange, I am at a lost. I suppose you could try and launch the app as root from the terminal but I am not sure if the sudo context is passed onto apps outside of the terminal. Give it a shot anyway:

OPen Terminal (under applications)

Then type this and hit enter

sudo open -a "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin/Contents/Resources/Silverlight Preferences.app"

then try again...

If that doesn't work, you may try deleting this file and reinstalling silverlight (yet) again

/Users/<youuser>/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SlingPlayer.plugin

I suspect the above file stores your silverlight preferences on a per-user level. If it works with one user and not the other, removing this file for the account that isn't working and reinstall silverlight *may* fix it.

If that doesn't work I am really at a loss then...
