Nov 1, 2011 9:02 PM in response to Anthony Badaraccoby Spongeman1022,I would just suggest turning off Automatic Downloads for Music in both iTunes and on your iDevice. That is the simplest thing to do until Apple fixes this "glitch".

Nov 2, 2011 9:29 AM in response to Spongeman1022by CAMori,This worked for me with one or two additional steps.
After I had turned off Automatic Downloads for Music, I had to choose to Manually Manage Music on my iPhone, and then manually delete the duplicate songs from the device while in iTunes. After that, I unselected Manually Manage Music, and re-synced the phone. The duplicate tracks did not re-appear, and I have since been able to purchase music without problems.

Nov 2, 2011 3:26 PM in response to clevercubedby dmfoster303,None of this actually worked for me. I synced with itunes (imac, osx lion) and i have 2 of nearly every song on my iphone. nothing i have done has removed them and i fear i need to do a restore on my iphone. i have very little memory left on my 32gb iphone because of these duplications. some of my ical events on my mac have duplicated since i first used icloud.

Nov 5, 2011 2:34 PM in response to clevercubedby dmfoster303,Yeah...I have around 4000 songs, including the duplicates, on my iphone. i personally don't have the time or patience to go through and manually delete 1906 duplicated songs. this is an issue with mac osx lion and ios5 not performing properly, and will surely be fixed by apple eventually. until then, the only solution i found was to restore my phone to factory settings and then re-sync it with my imac. i don't dare sync it again until there is another update, for fear that syncing again will duplicate songs again.

Nov 10, 2011 1:18 PM in response to clevercubedby kezenator,I am also having this problem.
I puchased songs in iTunes on my phone and all works great.
I then puchased a couple of more using iTunes on my PC. They were automatically downloaded to the phone. Next time I synced I got duplicate copies of all the songs that I puchased on the PC.

Nov 15, 2011 10:47 AM in response to kezenatorby jamriman,Ok please help figure out what I missed. I checked manually manage music and videos, which gets rid of the double songs on my iphone BUT I can add songs the I removed even though it is checked. I tried manually entering the songs from the finder with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Nov 17, 2011 6:25 AM in response to clevercubedby Maverickster,Same problem here.
Recreation Steps:
- Automatic Download Music set to "On" on iOS devices.
- Buy "Test Song" from the Store in iTunes on computer.
- "Test Song" is downloaded into iTunes on computer and automatically simultaneously downloaded to my iOS devices.
- Corrected Genre of "Test Song" in iTunes on computer.
- Added "Test Song" to a sync'd playlist in iTunes on computer.
- Sync'd iOS devices with iTunes on computer.
Result under iOS 5.0.1/iTunes 10.5.1:
- "Test Song" appears once in iTunes on computer with the corrected Genre.
- "Test Song" appears twice on iOS devices -- one with the original/incorrect Genre; one with the corrected Genre.
- PROBLEM: iOS 5.0.1/iTunes 10.5.1 appears to be treating the "Test Song" contained within the sync'd playlist in iTunes (the one with the corrected Genre) as an entirely different song than the same "Test Song" originally downloaded to the iOS device via Automatic Download Music (the one with the original/incorrect genre).
Proper Result:
When syncing, iOS/iTunes should:
- Recognize that the "Test Song" on the iOS device is identical to the "Test Song" in iTunes except for the Genre;
- Recognize that I manually changed the Genre of "Test Song" in iTunes, so that is probably the Genre I want assigned to "Test Song"; and
- Simply change the Genre of "Test Song" already on the iOS device to match the manually-changed Genre in iTunes rather than treating it as an entirely different song.

Nov 17, 2011 9:58 AM in response to Mavericksterby Anthony Badaracco,Thank you for that post. Thoughtful, accurate, and could be very helpful.
This failure to recognize a change of song information seems to be exactly the problem we're all having with automatic iOS syncing. Yes, it's possible to correct the duplication by manually syncing, but that's not really a solution for those of us who have anything more than a couple hundred songs. I do hope Apple is able to find a solution.

Nov 18, 2011 9:41 AM in response to jamrimanby HobokenGooner,Same problem here. Two copies of the same song that was purchased. Is someone from Apple Support looking into this?
-
Nov 18, 2011 6:17 PM in response to HobokenGoonerby jamriman,My problem is not with downloaded songs from Itunes store but all my songs getting duped. Anyhow this is what I did.
1. Copy the music folder with all the songs.
2. Delete all your songs from itunes.
3. Manually remove all your songs from iphone by swiping each one out.
4. Grab your copied music folder and drag into itunes.
5. Check for and delete duplicates from itunes.
Let me know if this helps. Thanks
