iTunes wont transfer music from my music folder

I just got my iPod and i had been using a differnt mp3 player previously. The problem is that all my music is in the My music folder and wont transfer in to the iTunes format and be read in iTunes. It had tried to up date my folder when i loaded iTunes but it stoped some where along the way due to an error and i cant figure out how to get it to continue transfering?
