How to retrieve old nickname in Game center?

Aprox a year ago I registered nickname iBolit.

At that time I've had iPhone 3G.

Now I somehow can't login with the same nickname from my new iPhone 4G...

Thing is that I'm using the same Apple ID....

Anyone knows something about this subject?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2, Game Center

Where is someone who can help this man?

I have been using game center for at least six months (most likely longer) and enjoying their games. However this evening I went to play one of my game center games Eternal Warriors a game by GLU and it asked me to accept the game center terms of service. This seemed routine to me so I accepted. Then it booted my Busta80 game center ID and replaced it with one that my wife had set up over a year ago. Now when I try and get my old ID linked back to my apple ID it tells me that that nickname is already in use. Someone help!

Same sort of problem here.

Have been using Nickname X on Gamecenter for months,

Upgraded to iOS 5 today.

Gamecenter said I had to accept new terms and conditions.

Used E-mail associated with my Apple ID to log into Gamecenter and it asked me to enter my nickname.

Typed the WRONG nickname accidentally. Call it Nickname Y.

Now I can no longer associate Nickname X with Gamecenter. If I log out of gamecenter and log back in, it always says "Welcome back, Y". All my save games and achievements are associated with nickname X, so I get nagged during every game that I am logged in as the wrong person.

Other people are saying that when they were prompted for the nickname, they entered their correct nickname, but Gamecenter said it was taken and would not allow it. So I'm assuming that the fact I entered the wrong nickname was not the issue.

If I edit the account in Gamecenter app and try to change my nickname to nickname X, it complains that nickname X is associated with a DIFFERENT account. How can that be? I mean, both nicknames are associated with the exact same Apple ID and password.

This is highly frustrating.

Yep, same problem on my ipad2. Upgraded to ios5 and now when i sign into game center it asks for my apple id, which it takes fine but when trying to use my nickname i have been using for months and posting achievement swith, it tells me that the nickname is already in use by another account...yeah...MINE! I can use my nickname on these boards but game center is messed up now and can't find anywhere on the web how to get that nickname associated with the new os version of game center.

Shame on you apple!

This also had me in a panic but this is what worked for me.

When Game Center was launched, it was trying to log me in by default with my email address whatever@whatever.com, but I had to change this to my Apple ID which is just a string of text, and then I put in my password for my Apple ID.

If you do not know your Apple ID, search your inbox for "Apple" and hopefully the email from the past is in there somewhere.

You can also try and find your Apple ID on this Apple Webpage:-

https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa

Also, earlier, ! had to change my Apple ID password because it was not secure enough by default and it was not letting me log in, so I went from the link in my email to the apple password change page and I changed the password to make the new security happy.

Game Center then logged me in first time and didn't have to put in a nickname or anything - yay

Hope this helps someone - I would have cried to have to redo all those **** achievements!!

Regards,

Having the same issues as others on here, updated iPad2 to ios5 and lost my Game Center account. When I tried to access it, I was automatically logged in (I'm guessing because I'd already been logged into my Apple account when previously on the app store and my Game Center account is the same as my Apple id). Instead of loading all my old data, though, I got the Terms/Cond's again and was asked to create a nickname.

Again like others it said the nickname was already in use so I couldn't continue on without making another name, which I'm hesitant to do, feels like I'm admitting to my old account being a lost cause... This isn't really a dire situation and definitely could be worse, losing important info/data, but it is kind of crappy that I lost all my data from 3 games I clearly invested much too much time into. Guess this does give me a nice break, though, since I don't want to play until this hopefully is resolved. I'm also hoping the fact that many of us got messages saying our old nicknames were unavailable means that our old accounts and data haven't been deleted. Just hanging out waiting to be restored...fingers crossed.

It is extremely inconvenient, however, that Game Center's main site is an unhelpful side page on Apple's site. Who could we contact about something like this? Seems odd to send complaints or ask for tech help from their regular tech contacts that might be busy helping customers with actually phone/product problems instead of our Game Center issues?

I'm having the exact same problem on a 3GS I just upgraded to OS5. I've only ever used one apple ID, and people on my firends list can still see my old nickname. It is very frustrating that there is absolutly no Game Center support, the best I've come up with is e-mailing apple under iTunes account management. I'll see if I hear back from them at all.

Regarding my particular issue (see above), I am embarrased to admit that it was user error. Gamecenter is based on an E-mail address that you use for your iTunes account.

When I first created an iTunes account years ago, I used a very old but still active E-mail account. Turns out the old nickname I have been using for years is based on this one.

When I got my iPhone, I created a new iTunes account with a different E-mail address. What I did not realize at that time was that my Gamecenter account was based on the OLD E-mail address.

After the IOS5 update, GameCenter asked me to log in again. I used the NEW E-mail address and was therefore unable to find the nickname I used for so many years.

So, I suggest that others take a few minutes and think if you ever had another iTunes account that you might have used to originally set up GameCenter.
