I bought a Macbook 5,1 yesterday and today I noticed my backlit keyboard is not working.
In the System Settings for the keyboard there is not option for illuminating the keyboard.
The guy I bought it from said he did replace the Logic Board
For that model, the 2.0GHz model did not have a backlit keyboard. Only the 2.4GHz model did. Which do you have?

When you say the guy you bought it from replaced the logic board... do you know if that was something he did himself... or if it was done by Apple or an AASP?
he did it himself
Ah... do you happen to know why? If it was originally a 2.0GHz, it would have been easy enough for him to replace it with a 2.4GHz logic board... but doing so wouldn't get a backlit keyboard.
He would have had to replace the top case/keyboard at the same time as he replaced the logic board.
