Hey! I'm having trouble with my iPod Classic (Built 2011). I think the HD is nearly dead, look at these numbers taken from the HD S.M.A.R.T. test:
Pending Sectors: 0.
PowerOn Hours: 545.
Temp: Min 19c.
Temp: Max 54c.
Since buying a new Classic here in my country is really expensive, what model of HD would you suggest? If it can be found on Amazon would be very nice.
That's a fair number of reallocs, but if none are pending then you may well still have some further use out of the device. If it isn't working now try the DFU restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic, load it up with songs and see how you get on. If it works, great! If it freezes up and the stats get worse then it is probably time to retire it. FYI anything over 50c has the potential to permanently damage the drive. If you don't fancy buying a replacement device you could investigate having the hard drive replaced instead, or even do it yourself.
Just synced my iPod, took about 6hrs and it synced 9511 from 9546 songs. I'm currently using it on my Speaker Dock and it sounds fine, plays whole songs without jumping or skipping (There are songs where it didn't showed the artwork). However, I'll buy a new HD just in case. S.M.A.R.T. data is the same since last check.
On the temp. I've got another Classic (HD is fine, 0 Reallocs & Pending Sectors) and the stats show max temp also at 54c. I'll try not to leave them in my bag all the time.
Thanks for your help, I'm really grateful.
My 80gb iPod Classic has been freezing halfway through the sync, forcing me to restart iTunes with the task manager and ejecting my iPod through My Computer. I broke up the sync into smaller portions, formatted my iPod, attmped the recovery of bad sectors, scanned it with my anitvirus, you name it I tried it. After I checked it in Diagnostics mode, here are my stats:
Pending Sectors: 56
PowerOn Hours: 1332
Temp: Current 24C
Temp: Min 15C
Temp: Max 47C
I'm definitely not a computer savvy person, especially with Apple products, considering my iPod is the only Apple product I have, and have only had it for a year. But based on other users' results, I don't think my numbers are looking too good. I bought my iPod used from Gamestop, so is there anything I can do, or should I start putting some money back for a new iPod?
Try the DFU restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic to see if you can get the pending sectors cleared out. Unless there are damaged areas of the disc that have yet to be discovered that should enable you to get some more use out of it. Probably wouldn't hurt to start planning for its replacement.
Hello i've been having similiar problems, my classic is freezing while syncing.
My SMARTDATA Is:
Pending Sectors: 120
PowerOn Hours: 1881
Temp: Current 24c
Temp: min 0c
Temp: Max 55c
Can you please help or tell me if my ipod should be replaced or can be repaired it's a 2007 model so it's been through the ringer but i have always tried to take care of it. I thought it was the AAC formating for my songs on Itunes so I recently coverted all my songs to MPEG.
When i sync it'll stop randomly, on the actul ipod it will say conected but on the computer it will say syncing. I've had this long enough to know that isn't right. I've reset it via itunes and on the actual device it self, but the first couple tries via itunes it said data was corrupt.
Any help would be highly appreciated, Denali.
