The 2nd generation ipod touch was discontinued in september 2010 (8 GB model). since it was released in september 2008, the unit is simply too slow to run many newer games that have been published since september 2010. also, this unit just doesn't have enough memory to handle running any newer versions of iOS. it simply just doesn't have the overall power needed to handle iOS 5. even so, when I upgraded to iOS 4.2, the battery drains much faster under iOS 4. the iPod Touch is designed to be replaced every 2-4 years, and as such, I would recommend for you to consider replacing it in the near future.
