time machine error

I have a few macbook pros that are having no trouble completing a time machine backup, but some are producing this error:

"The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disc. The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disc Utility to repair your backup disc."

I've checked the backup disc and the sparse bundle using Disc Utility and everything checks out fine.

What other steps could I try to fix the issue?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Mac mini server

so if I understand right some computers can back up to your server while other computers can not?

if that's correct,

did you try running disk utility on the pros that are having issues backing up? is there any thing to repair? dose is successfully repair? if so, after repairing, if you try repairing again, dose it say there are no issues to repair?

have you tried a safeboot on the pro that will not backup?

have you looked on the console of the pros that will not back up? are there any details about what it can't backup? for instance time machine report a specific file it can't back up?

I tried booting the machines with problems to safe mode but they couldn't mount the disk.

I've ran repair disc and permissions but still get errors.

Here is a console log of one of the failed backups:

That's your culprit right there. I would force a few more manual backups and see if it keeps failing on that same file. If so, I would recommend completely removing silverlight from the computer, then re-installing. If not, post back and we can dig deeper.

This is, of course, only relevant for the machine you pulled the log from. It would be interesting to see logs from other machines that are having trouble.

I'm getting that Time Machine Error without any further clue as to what the problem is, i.e. no fault number, no specific error message, just Time Machine could not complete backup.

I'm using OSX 10.6.8.

Have tried partitioning My Passport 1T external hard-drive, I've tried repairing it (there was no problem with it) and just plain restarting the laptop.

It backups to different degrees (like 384MB of 199GB) of each time before saying: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.

Any idea what to do?
