Automatic Window Resize

Hey all,

I am finding it a little tedious to constantly be having to resize windows (or panes/panals/finder as apple call them) using the green button so that they fit to the contents of the folder.

I was just curious as to wether this is something that can be solved with a line of code or maybe a 3rd party programme.

Or should I just get a grip and not be such a fussy little f**k! 🙂

Thanks in advance

Hi Vitu,

A keyboard shortcut would best I think. I have downloaded Divvy, it seems all right but I'd rather not have to have an app running in the background for something that can be achieved by a shortcut.

I'm just trying to make the shortcut at the moment, can you tell me what I would but in the "menu title" field - is it something like resize, expand?

Kind Regards, Liam

Hi,

You can make a keyboard shortcut under "System Preferences/Keyboard/Keyboard Shortcuts" for all your applications to resize as if you've clicked the green button. Input the name of the menu entry and choose a key combination. It's quite a time-saver!

There are plenty of third party window management apps: Size Up, Cinch and Divvy are just a few. You can always test drive'em and see which one fits your routine better.

Hi Liam,

The menu title field should reflect exactly what is written in the Window menu - in this case, "Zoom" (without the quotes). Notice that you must select on the mentioned System Preferences panel, the "Application Shortcuts" option on the left and then click the plus button besides it. From there, a little window will appear, where you should state that the given shortcut should work for all apps. Write Zoom on the first box and input your key combination on the second one. Be careful not to choose a system wide shortcut! I've been using ctrl+Z for this without a problem.

Happy shortcutting! Regards,

Vitu
