My internal DVD drive is broken, so I picked up an external. I'm trying to burn to the external, but I can't find the preference settings in DVD Studio Pro orin my system preferences where I could stipulate that I want to use it by default. Any ideas?

Select "Format" or "Build/Format" (in the toolbar) and in the window that opens you can stipulate the Output Device.

Can't help you directly but you can always create a disk image (Build & Format) and burn that with Disk Utility. That is if your burner shows up in the System Profiler ...
