There are some native embroidery solutions on the Mac, although they are pretty limited:
- As a full featured digitizer, "Embroidery i2" (http://www.embroideryi2.com/) is a plugin for Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw, carrying a huge price tag
- To combine existing designs or for lettering, BritonLeap just released "Embrilliance Essentials" (http://embrilliance.com/embrilliance-essentials), conversations between different embroidery formats can be done with "Convert It, Mac" from the same vendor, both for approx. USD 100 - 150
- "StitchBuddy" (http://www.stitchbuddy.de/) is a cheaper alternative to merge and modify existing designs, USD 50
This is all native Mac embroidery software, I know of being currently maintained ...
