Gifts must be drawn from a credit card. Money from a gift card, allowance, or other prepaid credit is for you and only you.

You can't send gifts or purchase gift cards/vouchers using iTunes Store credit (such as that obtained through an iTunes Card); you will be asked for other payment information in order to do so (for example, a credit card).
If you don't have a credit card, some banks allow you to use your debit card as a credit card for online purchases in which the funds would be withdrawn from your bank account. If your bank offers that capability it's something to keep in mind.
Have a great day. 🙂
What possible, valid explanation can there be for this restriction? It's my credit, why can't I give it away?
It just plain rotten! They should have a disclaimer on those cards we purchase at the store, it's not right, and I want a refund. Give me my money back if I can't use it to gift or however I want to use it. It's wrong. They can send me a check, because I never saw a disclaimer on the card I bought stating this restriction. You hear me Apple, you have my address, if I can't use MY money to gift, then send me my balance to my address. I want my refund!
Whilst Apple do now read and reply on some old unanswered posts on this forum, iTunes Support don't - you will need to try contacting them : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
The UK gift card that I have has on the card to which it's attached :
...
This card cannot be redeemed for cash, returned for cash refund, exchanged, or used to purchase any other merchandise, provide monthly gifts or iTunes Gifting.
...
And from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2736 :
Note: When purchasing an iTunes Gift, a valid credit card must be on file; you cannot purchase an iTunes Gift with store credit.
