Click on the Apple, then on about this Mac, and then on more info. In the resulting window, click on hardware on the left and it should show something like Macbook 6,1. I'd assume you know when you bought it, is it aluminum or white/black?

This is a response to the reply by user "Babowa".
I will attempt to correct this response - for the benefit of future persons likely to view this post. It is not impossible to determine, as your response has suggested, "How" the asker can locate the desired information. The asker did not ask for any information specific to the needed battery. The asker's question is a simple inquiry into "How" to find the information themselves. Providing the user with a sufficient response to their question is completely within the realm of possibility, with no further information needed from the asker.
Well, without knowing which Macbook you are referring to, it's impossible to determine; so, here is the Apple Store page for batteries for Macbooks:
http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=macbook+battery&mco=Nzc1MjMwNg
There aren't that many different models.
What else did it say in the System Profiler? There were two 5,2 models: a 2 GHz early 2009 and a 2.13 GHz mid/late 2009. Both are white and should use the same battery: if I remember correctly, there was only one choice for the white Macbook on the Apple website?
And a tip: if you click on buy for one of those batteries, then go to view your shopping basket, it will display the model number for the item. Write it down for future reference.
then how do i know my macbook model?
i bought it used... so i dont know the year it was built. it shows macbook 5.2 on system info. It's a white one.
Both the 5,2s use the same battery. They use different RAM the 2.0Ghz uses 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM and the 2.13Ghz uses 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM.
You can get a battery for about $33 on eBay
Or for $129 from Apple http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA566LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Out of curiosity, have you used one of the $33 batteries you are recommending? If so, for how long have you had it?
I'm asking because I've heard horror stories about some of the battery sellers on ebay, so I would be extremely hesitant to trust my laptop to such a battery.
I've gotten 6 MacBooks off of eBay for my family. 4 of them had old batteries so I've bought 4 from eBay. The oldest is 3 years. All 4 have worked perfectly. They're made by the same manufactuers that make them for Apple. The only difference is they don't have the Apple logo or the Apple markup.
Well, it's good to hear a positive story - the last one I had read (some time ago) was not at all positive.
FWIW, many of the same retailers on eBay use Amazon and, IMO, Amazon has Betty consumer protections/conflict resolution. Plus, if you're a Prime Member you get free 2day shipping.
Better. Lol
