My iPad2 ringer and sounds

My iPad2 ringer does not sound when I receive a FaceTime message, email, etc. All of my sound settings are on and the volume is turned up. The sounds work when I use Netflix and play my iTunes, but when I watch a movie using my HBO Go app, the volume does not come through the speakers; it can only e heard through headphones. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? Does anyone have a solution to this?

Don't know that this will work but you could reset the iPad.

Hold down on the sleep and home buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
