I Think My iPod touch 4G has a Virus

I was playing a game on a very low battery when the app quit, and I was brought back to the main page of my iPod. The screen went black, and that little animation that signals when something is processing showed up in the middle of the screen. I thought it was turning itself off because it had run out of battery. Naturally, I plugged it in to my wall charger. Nothing happened. Then, I tried plugging it in to my iMac. Nothing happened. The computer didn't even recognize the iPod. Of course, I knew I wasn't going to be able to sync it (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3102625), but I figured it would help. Then I noticed that the animation on the screen was in 3rd generation graphics, and not taking use of the retina display. This is when I started to think that this was something foreign that I may have picked up from an app. Is it a virus? Has this ever happened before? Can I fix it without going to an Apple Store? So many questions!

EDIT: I went downstairs to find that my dad fixed it. Now I feel stupid for posting this. If you want to answer a question, I posted a link to another in the middle of this article.

Have you tried rebooting the device? If not by press and hold the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. Itshould take about 10-15 seconds to reboot. If this does not clear it up you can always doe a restore.
