Why are my audio books and pod casts disappearing from my iPod without having been removed from my iTunes library?

We have an iPod classic that is less than one year old. We have recently noticed that the iPod will, on it's own, delete Audio books and Pod casts. It does this WITHOUT the tracks being deleted from our iTunes library. There is plenty of space left on the device. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this situation? Thanks!
