Scanner from hp Photosmart c3100 doesn't work but I need it to!

I have MAC OS X Version 10.5.8.

I have a HP Photosmart C3100 3 in one. Though, I can print fairly fine, it will not scan anything. I actually can't recall it ever scanning since I got this MAC but I just rolled with it... However, I now need this option greatly.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), HP Photosmart C3100

I have a HP 3180 3 in 1. It has been a CONSTANT DISAPPOINTMENT with MAC. An old printer driver version used to work for a long time, but the latest updates for Snow L wipe out the scanner function. It just disappears. HP says go to Apple updates. Apple says 'We just put out what HP gives us.' It's a big tough *****. Catch 22 deja vu. Last update I did, the scanner worked one day! Today NO. NO SCANNER SOFTWARE INSTALLED ANYWHERE. That's why I am here. AS SOON AS I FINISH TYPING THIS, I AM GETTING ONLINE AND BUYING ANOTHER NON HP PRINTER. Period. No more with HP. Gotta go and buy a printer/scanner now. BYe.😠😟

As a last ditch effort I tried this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw _lang=&product=1146331#N191

I downloaded & installed the HP driver package HP_Installer_Photosmart_Full_Group12_10.3.dmg which is the driver package for OS X 10.3 even though I am running OS X 10.6.8.

It is working... for today.

I suggest you go to the above link and start downloading & installing driver packages until you find one that works.

When you DO find one that works:

  1. Keep the DMG handy!
  2. Keep the LINK where you found it handy!
  3. NEVER let Apple Updates update the driver package. It will try every time.
  4. You can temporarily disable the update package from Apple Updates by selecting it and hitting the DELETE key. This will work for a while, deleting it from the update list, but eventually it will reassert itself and reappear on the list.
  5. Next time AVOID Hewlett Packard.

In the meantime, I am looking for a deal on a nonHP Printer/Scanner.

HAPPY MACKING you Macovite!
