Using Midi Moose for specific patch in Mainstage 2

Hi there,

I am trying to use a Midi Moose and assign a certain patch to each button so I will be able to switch quickly without cycling through. I can tell that midi is going through, but the learn function will not work. Now, I am trying to manually set up a button to select a particular patch, but am totally clueless. I'm using a MotuTraveler mk3 and all drivers are up to date.

Under layout I have slected:

Device: Midi Moose

Channel: 1-6

Type: Single Value

Number: 20 (I have tried different numbers, w/o success)

Midi thru: Automatic

Send Value to: none

With these settings the button will still not light up when switch is pressed. I have tried various methods for mapping. I have tried selecting a patch (i.e. vibes), selecting the button>actions>current patch and no luck.

Any advice. I'm really looking for a step by step walkthrough since I'm pretty challenged.

Thank you!

Hi Erika,

AFAIK, the Midi Moose sends program changes. The patches in MS do switch, if a program change is received.

To check the Midi Moose, you can use an app named MIDI Monitor (http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/).

Make sure, you have this check box enabled:

Unfortunately, there's a one-off problem, in the case shown above, you need to send program change no. 3 to have MS switching to that patch.

If you want visual feedback on which patch is being selected, just insert a patch list in your workspace.

Hi

According to the manual, the MIDI Moose sends only Program Change messages. There is no need to setup Buttons in the Layout for this to work with Mainstage.

Mainstage will only respond to these if you set each patch to a specific PG Number. You can do this 2 ways:

From the Patch List Action Menu:Reset Program Change Numbers (This will set all patches to sequential PG numbers):

Or Manually in the Patch Inspector:

Erika - I have bought a midi moose - and am having a nightmare trying to get it to work. I am a complete midi novice - cannot seem to get the midi moose mapped.

I only want it to switch off and on virtual stompboxes and act as a looper.

Unless they have changed the specification of the Moose such that it can send MIDI CC messages (and it doee not seem that they have) you are a bit stuck:

My reply earlier in this thread stated that the MMoose only transmits MIDI Program Change messages. The only thing that Mainstage can do with these is change Patches.

If you wish to simply control the PedalBoard plugin, or the LoopBack, you are SOL.

Pedalboard "switches' could be covered using different Patches in MS, Loopback transport controls NOT.

Thanks for the reply.

So, I am still hugely confused by this world of midi.

So - if it can only send patch change messages - any links on how to set this up ? I have tried & can't even get that far !!

Have tried assign etc in mainstage - but nothing moves. I have set up Mainstage as below (follwoing a video -but then he went all Beringer) - but cant find anything to map this onto the MMoose

Hi

The MIDI Moose only transmits MIDI Program change messages. Mainstage ONLY uses MIDI Program Chnage messages to change Patches (Nothing Else)

You are trying to assign Switch Screen Controls to these Program Change messages. This will NEVER work with MS in it's current form.

You need a MIDI pedal device that transmits MIDI Continuous Controller messages (MIDI CC messages), such as a Behringer, or similar (or you need to change your aspirations).

If you want to check out what happens with MIDI Program Change messages:

Make a few Patches in MS

Assign them to different MIDI Program numbers using the Action gear (Reset Program Change numbers)

Step on some pedals on the MM: Mainstage will change patches.
