I got my iPad stolen in Cancun.

My iPad was stolen yesterday from my hotel room in Cancun. I tried to find it through the Find iPhone/iPad function, but I am not able to locate it. I sent a message to lock, even though I have the iPad locked all the time. My question is: Can someone break the 4 digit code? If I use the function WIPE all the information, does it really get wiped out? I had a lot of important information. What is the best thing to do?

If the iPad is not connected to the internet in some fashion - via an available wi-fi network or via a carrier's cellular network if the iPad is a 3G iPad, none of the Find my iDevice functions can work. The same if the iPad is powered off obviously or if it has been restored with iTunes as a new iPad.

A 4 digit number only passcode can be broken with specialized tools, but doubtful the thief is overly interested in gaining access to your data unless you are a spy or a high ranking government/military/corporate official that was targeted for this. Best to change the password for the email accounts you were accessing with the iPad's Mail app.

Allan, thank you so much for your input. Good idea to change the email passwords. I did change all of them.

Allan, do you know if the WIPE OUT function will work even though no one tried yet to access through the wifi? Yesterday, when I got the iPad stollen, I wend immediately to the find iPad function, and started looking for it. Later on, I realized that it would only work if the person tries to connect to the wi fi or 3G, but for that person to be able to connect, they will need the 4 number password. What do you think? thanks,
