My Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my Samsung Writemaster DVD burner when I plug it in Why not?

I went to the Samsung site looking for a Mac driver for my SE-S204 "N" and can't find anything that makes my MacBook Pro recognize the external lightscribe burner when I plug it in. Why not?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

The answer may lie in the user manual "troubleshooting" section.

It works on my mac book pro.
