And those FBDIMMs throwing out a lot of heat, not using SmcFanControl 2.2.x to boost fans 400 rpm - and monitoring temps with Temperature Monitor (sans GPU). And hotter weather. Make sure it gets air and has a place for exhaust to go rather than sit around or pulled back in.

Heat kills, and 8800GTs solder and fan - plus the card would have been better if it were designed as dual slot edition, maybe like some (HIS) that are built with copper coolers.

After 4 years, my 2008 Mac Pro just experienced a grey screen, then black screen failure with the ATI 2600XT graphics card ... the usual troubleshooting methods pointed to a hardware problem.

Using the info on TS3630 from the link above, I determined the card's serial number was among those affected. I went to the Apple store this weekend, and they swapped the bad card for a good replacement at no cost to me. So, as of Sept. 2012, they are still honoring the replacement program.

Be sure to bring a copy of the tech doc + all your pertinent system info (the store was not aware of the program until I showed them the document). Also, do check in advance whether they have the replacement in stock ... I was lucky that my local store did, otherwise, they have to order and you'll need top make a return trip as they will not ship the replacement card to you.

kudos to Apple for handling this so well after all this time!

My video card failed like Lee's. I looked at TS3630 and my card has a bad serial number. I took it to authorized Apple center and they comfirmed that it card was on the bad list. However, in my case, Apple would not replace the 4 year old card.

Very disappointing to spend $5K on a comnputer and have video card go out ( a video card that Apple recognizes as faulty) and have Apple not replace it. Poor business on their part.
