Replacement of iPhone Earphones

I've read online that Apple will replace your first pair of iPhone Earphones if they break during the 1-year warranty. Can anyone who has done this confirm it?

iPhone 4, iOS 4, MacBook Pro (5,5) Mac OS X 10.6.7
