cannot find airport extreme after 5.5.3 update

Just installed the latest Airport Utility, 5.5.3. It will no longer find the airport extreme connected directly to my machine. Anyone else having this issue? Any solutions found?

Running Snow Leopard, latest version, updates, etc.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

If you are unable to fine your base station after installing this update (5.5.3). Turn off all computers connected to your Airport Extreme (be it hardline or wireless); then unplug the power to both your modem and Airport Extreme...wait 1-2 minutes and then power up the cable modem followed by the Airport Extreme...your should then be able to see your Airport Extreme via the Airport Utility. At least that is what I did and it worked for me.

Good luck.

I installed the latest update two days ago and I'm going crazy.

Airport utility can only find my airport express when I have reset it, then trying to install it and when it's rebooting the connection is lost and airport utility can no longer find my airport express and I have to reset it again only to try the same procedure once again, with no luck.

It have been working perfectly until this update, and I have no idea what to do.

Has anyone got a solution?

I have run into the exact same issue as divine86. I followed the instructions as Ali Navaie outlined above but still no luck. The light is flashing amber on my airport extreme but when I run the airport utility, it can't find my device. I have also tried resetting the device to its factory settings and still no luck. I hope someone has a solution.

I was having the same problem after the 5.5.3 update. I could get online with my iPad (not the 3g one). It would see my router and functioned normally. But with my MacBook, it either didn't see the airport or would see if for a few seconds, then get a failed connection and I couldn't reconnect. I tried restarting all the equipment and no luck. Same with deleting the Airport service in the Network preferences. Finally I just did the same thing and waited much longer, 2 hours instead of 20 minutes, and all seems well so far. Bottom line:

  1. deleted the airport service in network preferences
  2. unplugged cable modem
  3. unplugged router
  4. waited 2-3 hours
  5. restarted modem. waited 1 minute
  6. restarted router
  7. added airport service back

I noticed that nothing was showing up in my Airport utility when I wanted to reconnect an airport express that wasn't working. The Airport Extreme IS working , as my iPhone can find the wireless network, but it does not show up in the utility.

I only use the express to send iTunes to my stereo. I can't be bothered reconfiguring my network from scratch for that. I'll plug my iPod into the stereo instead.

I'm having the same **** here. 1st Gen Time Capsule, 2 Airport Express 802.11g , was set up as a WDS network, then after yesterday's Airport Utility update, I got a message saying my router configuration was incorrect, and I should change it to Bridge mode. Stupidly (it was late) I clicked OK, and since then, we've been having **** on wheels.

I've reset my TC and AEs to factory settings, rebuilt the TC access, which seems to be OK, but I'm having trouble getting the AEs back up. It doesn't help that this isn't something people do every day.

Is there any DEFINITIVE guide to building a WDS network out there? Something that actually gets into the details of what gets set up first, WITHOUT being someone's meal ticket to try and sell me an e-book? This stuff is not rocket science, if anyone with the inside knowledge of the correct approach would simply WRITE IT DOWN with any kind of authority.

I haven't had to touch my WiFi LAN in over 2 years, and with one upgrade, I've lost a day's work.
