Authenticated as localadmin to local directory: /local/Default

The server (Macintosh 10.5) crashed. When I restarted it, it would not accept anyones passwords. I used Apple's reset password utility and changed the "Local Administrator" password. I was then able to login using localadmin and the new password. However, all the users are now gone. I see a message stating that I am "Authenticated as localadmin to local directory: /local/Default"

How can I get more users and groups back? Also, my old admin and password still doesn't work. I must login as root everytime.

If it sounds like I am lost, I am, kind of.

Any advice is appreciated.
