why cant i download mac app store

I am a newbie. Any one know why I can't download the new Mac App store?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

If your signature line is accurate, you will need to upgrade your Operating System to at least10.6.6 (Snow Leopard) to get the mac App store.
