How do I remove individual apps from my app download history?

You don't.
It is a history of your purchases. If you purchased it in the past, then it is part of the purchase history.
You can hide the app by swipeing your finger accross the app and then press 'Hide'
to do this, go into the 'app store' on your IOS device select 'purchased' and then swipe accross the apps that you no longer want to see in the history. You can also unhide apps by going into your itunes account on your MAC or PC and selecting 'view hidden purchases'
This is a pain in the backside! Apple needs to sort this out!
All customers should be given the option to delete history of purchases but as
usual apple are control freaks! Sort it out apple!
