IPhone 4 screen orientation won't rotate

Is the orientation lock on?

Look for the icon at the top of the screen.

You can see the icon and how to change this in the manual:

iPhone User Guide (For iOS 4.2 and 4.3 Software)

You may have this feature locked, double click your home button the slide your finger to the right until your get to the iPod section, then make sure you don't see a lock icon in the orientation icon.

Did you do a restart by holding down the on/off and home button until you see the Apple logo on the screen?

I now have the same problem with mine. I have tried everything I can find online - unlocking rotation lock, resetting phone etc and no difference. Any other ideas would be wonderful. Emails, texts and videos are in profile view as soon as they are opened but then instantly flip round to landscape view and do not move from there no matter what I do. There is no lock on. Anyone know what's going on?

I'm having the same problem with my iphone 4, have tried everything suggested but it won't turn out of portrait view.

My iPhone 4 just started with the same problem--won't rotate. Screen orientation is not locked and I have shut down and rebooted the phone several times. Still won't rotate. What next?

This is probably not much help, but after trying everything I could think of and find online, the phone spontaneously fixed itself the minute I touched down in Denmark from the UK and turned it on after the flight!!! And has worked ever since. Very odd indeed.

I had the same problem with an accidental portrait orientation lock. The manual doesn't tell you how to unlock it. I found that it worked after I removed all my recently opened apps. I then double-clicked the Home button and then flicked left to right to toggle off the orientation lock. Fixed the accidental portrait orientation lock!

Had this problem twice now following updates I believe. iPhone 4 latest iOS. I found that even though orientation lock was not on it held in portrait all the time.

This worked for me:

Double tap home button

Close all apps open/on standby

Scroll from left to right to iPod control screen

Turn rotation lock ON

Power down iphone4

Power up iPhone 4

Go back to iPod controls. Turn rotation OFF.

And that's what worked for me. Twice

Having same problem with screen rotation going out randomly. What worked for me was just changing the Ring/silent button, then changing it back. Then Rotation works correctly again.

slid to the RIGHT

At the start of all the icons, it shows the controls for music,

to the left of these controls it shows the PORTRAIT ORIENTATION LOCK ICON,

clik it, DONE !!!!!!!!
