You should look at the current drivers available for both devices, if they're supported in Snow Leopard upgrading to Lion should probably will not affect them however we won't know for sure until Lion is released. You can find the devices currently supported at:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
BTW I don't think Rosetta has anything to do with drivers for scanners and printers. If you are using Epson and HP software that was written for PPC based computers then you may have a valid concern. You can always voice your concern at www.apple.com/feedback.

thanks roger, there is a driver for the scanner and one for the HP 5551. so I think that I am probably ok for the printer but I might lose the Epson interface for the scanner. I know that I can still use the scanner through Preview but i might lose some functionality. I will take up your suggestion about leaving feedback with Apple

Well it looks like the old Quicken is dead for Lion users, but no one said anything about TurboTax or maybe even a revival of MacInTax; does anyone have any info on this? I have been using TurboTax for years and I wonder whether the 2011 version, if it is compatible, will be able to import data from older versions. There are tax losses and previous years data that are needed by the current year. If the older material cannot be accessed, then those of us who use it are SOL if we upgrade to Lion.
Harvey,
You bring up a valid point. I'd recommend contacting Intuit and asking about their strategy for TurboTax. For the past several years I've the Internet version of TurboTax and have good luck with it.
I have a copy and TurboTax 2011, it supports: Mac OS X 10.4.11, 10.5.8, 10.6.8 and yes 10.7 or later.
I don't run Lion on my everyday system, however my Epson CX4200 printer/scanner works as expected from a clone drive that is upgraded to Lion.
