iTunes 10.3, Leopard 10.5.8, and the 3rd Generation iPod

So I have an iPod Touch that I use daily, but I recently found my old hand-me-down 3rd Generation iPod that had been missing for about a year. I don't have any USB cables, but I do have the dock + Firewire plug. Running Leopard 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.3, am I going to be able to sync the iPod via Firewire? If not, would a Firewire to USB convertor work?
