Can't Download iBooks
I've been trying all day to download iBooks from the App Store. The download starts, but quickly bails with an "unknown error" message. Is this a known problem?

I have the same problem - cannot load the iBooks app to my new iPhone 4
I just received a new iPad 2 and I get the same "unknown error" message as soon as it starts to download.
Same problem with new iPad - "unknown error" is the message when I try to download iBooks app
On your computer launch iTunes. From the menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Reset warnings and Reset cache.
Restart the iPad. Press and hold the sleep/wake button until you see the red slider then swipe to power off. Then press and hold the sleep / wake button until you see the Apple logo.
Now try downloading an iBook.
Carolyn, it's not that I'm having trouble downloading an iBook from the iBookstore. It's the app iBooks that refuses to download (I have had no trouble downloading other apps).
But your suggestion to open iTunes on my computer gave me another idea. I simply went to the iTunes Store on my Mac Pro and downloaded iBooks there. Now I'm syncing my iPad2 to the Mac, and I expect I'll soon be able to get some iBooks (including, I hope, the iPad User Guide).
If I run into trouble with downloads again, I'll give your solution a try. Just to confirm, I launch iTunes on my computer, not on my iPad, correct? Seems like it would make more sense to reset iTunes on the iPad.
i'm having this problem exactly 😟
Several have reported the same problem, so the problem has to be on Apples side. You can open iTunes on your computer, connect your iPad, and download iBooks there, then sync to your iPad and it will work just fine.
Since Mr. Screens clearly lives in the US, I don't think the link you provided will help him at all.......
Yes, we may be a little weird here in Northern California, but I think we're still part of the USA. But maybe that info will be useful to someone who doesn't live here and doesn't mind fibbing.
As you may have noticed, rbrylawski, I'd already stumbled onto your solution. Thanks for your help!
my bad...i miss read the article...i read it as saying that some apps are only available through itunes. apologies.
I'm glad it helped. I remember some time ago a similar situation and it got sorted out on the Apple side after a few days. Until then, I'll just help those who can't download iBooks.......
Same problem, but what do i do if i dont have access to my computer.
Dear Carolyn,
That solution does not work..
