Sony DCR-SX85 camcorder software not supported

how do i import movies & pictures from a sony DCR-SX85 camcorder

the supplied software "PMB" is not supported by Mac computers

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You don't need software to import video or pics..... your model does appear on the iMovie compatibility list:

I'd suggest reading Sony's instructions on hookup and opening iMovie and consulting its Help section on how to import. It should not be difficult at all. I've heard you can also import into iPhoto; however, since I don't use that, I can't help there but you also might want to check the Help section there.

From what I've gathered here is that Sony has never played nice with Macs. If there is a way you can use the camera's media and a card reader, things are much easier to work with. I even use that method with my Canon.


The format the video is in also plays a role - you an always try MPEG Streamclip which is an excellent video format converter to get the clip into a format iMovie will recognize. I also use that and it does a stellar job. So as long as you can get the media icon from your camera to show up on the desktop, try dragging the clip to MPEG Streamclip and see if that works.
