Iweb 8 strored my sites on the folder, when i installed iweb 9 it cleared this and now won't load

i have backed up my (iweb 8) sites and uploaded onto the ftp server hosting company, then i made the decision to load ilife 11 or iweb 9, now my sites have gone and although they are backed up on my hard drive and in the ftp folder they are not loading up.

Not sure why, my guess is that my files are http and not the Domain that it should be??

would be greatfull for some guidance

No, there's no way to convert the published HTML files to iWeb's Domain file format. ...iWeb's key Domain file is the one to back up — not the published HTML files.

Hello,

I have a similar problem in that the new version of the site (maybe when I installed iWeb11) is saved in the Library>App Support>iWeb>Domain. Its fine that this is the one that opens in iWeb, but as I am using FileZila to publish with should I be uploading the Domain file, or is there some way to save the new site in iWeb back into html format in the Sites folder?

No you don't upload your domain file because that is the file that iWeb uses to store info - it is not the published version of your site.

You need to double click on the domain file and iWeb will then open it. Then click on your site name and choose publish to a local folder from the drop down menu. You will then get your published files that you can upload to your server using FileZila.

Just to let you know, you have not installed iWeb 11 - it does not exist. What you installed was iLife 11 that has iWeb 09 as part of it. iWeb was never updated, so it is still iWeb 09.

Hi Ethmoid

You are a star... penny drop moment regarding the saving to a local folder... I should have thought of that!

Ah.. and thank you for clarifying that about iWeb11/iLife 11!!! Can you tell I am new to this... but learning fast!

Last question though... I just clicked on the site name in the left panel, Published to Local Folder (nominated the Sites folder and hope it will replace the old site thats in there???) but I have got a message:

Can’t create the file “index.html.” The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.

Any suggestions?

Thank you kindly!

Sam

Rather than publishing to a sites folder, just publish to your desktop instead so it does not go in any folder and see what happens if you do that.

If it happens again it could be that you domain file has become corrupted for some reason. If so you can try duplicating the domain file and then trying the copy or you might have to run disk utility to try and repair it.

OK... saved to Desktop and looks good (ie an index.html file in the folder).

Just deleting all the previous files from the public folder on the remote site and then will give a go to uploading it from the desktop.

If that works ok... could I drag the last version from the Sites folder to the trash and then re-publish to a local folder and specify the Sites folder?

To be able to upload only those new or modified files with your ftp client (if it has that capability) be sure to publish your site to the same folder every time and not delete any files in that folder between publications.

This tutorial describes why: #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client
