Give it your password so that it can uninstall it.
"To remove the scamware" sounds like as good of reason as any to me.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!! It stinks!! I tried to run it and it wouldn't work so I decided to delete it, but it wouldn't let me delete it and I ended up shredding it. Now it's still on my computer and I can't get it off!!
HELP!
Never mind- I followed the link. 🙂
Guys, MacKeeper is a legit app - visit its official website mackeeper.com to make sure in it. You can also take a look at the article at Cnet - http://cnet.co/iXiq5s entitled 'How to protect your Mac from recent malware' - MacKeeper is in the list of reputable malware scanners.
You may have mixed up the original app of MacKeeper with MacDefender analogue with the similar title - take a look at the following article at pcfixessupport.com to find out more about that malware - http://bit.ly/izdaxG
As for original MacKeeper, it's easy indeed to uninstall it if you want to - just follow these steps:
1) quit the app
2)drag&drop it to the trash
3) fill in the survey form: just choose one of the reasons why you've decided to uninstall MacKeeper
4) press 'Uninstall' button
and all the components of MacKeeper will be completely removed from your Mac.
You need to type in your pass to delete the app just because it's an action that influences your system. This pass just permits to go on with uninstalling - so you have no need to worry. It's done in order to provide your compute with more safety - one of MacKeeper's tools is Antitheft. So if the MacBook is stolen the thief would be unable to remove the app as he wouldn't know your pass - and it would help to return the computer to its owner.
Hey Allan
I like your little dancing cat...

I've had MacKeeper on my machine for a trial- they give a whole month free! It's pretty good, but like everything now Intel centric and I still run a G5. The virus/ malware function doesn't work for me. Macs may not be very virus prone but you still need to clean up; passing infection on is a crap thing to do to people. MacKeeper is a thoughtfully done clean up app with a virus snuffer. I recommend the little white light bulb superhero.
Like Mac engineers who built a product you can fix when hackers and malware get in. Just throw them away, and if there's a problem cause you threw away something nessasary do an archival system reload. Inconvenient- but be careful what you download.

You are welcome. It is Hobbes of Calvin & Hobbes.

I have and use MacKeeper and I actually like it. It's sort of a combination of "Spring Cleaning" and an anti-virus program. Mostly I just use it to empty out my cashes, remove language fonts I'll never use and duplicate files. I occasionally run the anti-virus, just in case.
My biggest complaints about MacKeeper are that it charges for things that can be done for free, much of what it does is dangerous and their advertising is less then honest. I know this because I have had to help users of MacKeeper repair their Mac after the damage incurred from using MacKeeper.
If Zeobit want to come after me, I'll even sign this.
